This is an estimate, not legal advice. The figure to rely on is the one GOSI shows in your account.
What the contribution is worked on
The contribution is worked on basic salary plus the cash housing allowance; transport and other allowances do not count. The highest wage it is worked on is SAR 45,000 a month, so anyone whose basic salary and housing allowance exceed that contributes on the ceiling only.
What is deducted from a Saudi employee
- Annuities: 9% from the employee for anyone with contribution periods before 3 July 2024, and the same from the employer.
- For anyone whose first contribution came after 3 July 2024, the share rises half a point a year: 9% in the first year, then 9.5% from July 2025, 10% from July 2026 and 10.5% from July 2027, settling at 11% from July 2028. The calculator uses the rate in force on the day you calculate.
- Unemployment insurance (SANED): 0.75% from the employee, and the same from the employer.
Nothing is deducted from a non-Saudi's pay for GOSI; the employer pays the occupational hazards contribution for them.
A hypothetical example
A Saudi employee with contribution periods before 2024 earns a basic salary of SAR 10,000, a housing allowance of SAR 2,500 and a transport allowance of SAR 1,000. The wage subject to contribution is SAR 12,500, and 9.75% of it, SAR 1,218.75, is deducted, so SAR 12,281.25 reaches them out of SAR 13,500.
Questions people ask
My first job started after July 2024, but I have years in an earlier government job. Which rate applies?
The decree keeps anyone with earlier contribution periods that were never paid out, under civil retirement or GOSI, on the old rates. If you have such periods, choose the first option. If you were paid compensation for them, you are under the new law.
I am a GCC citizen working in Saudi Arabia. What is deducted?
A GCC citizen stays under their own country's pension scheme through the GCC insurance extension system, and the rates differ by country, so the calculator shows no figure. Ask your country's pension authority.
Why is no contribution worked on the transport allowance?
Because Article 17 of the executive regulation lists the elements of the contributory wage as basic salary and housing allowance, and transport is not among them.
My employer provides my housing. What do I enter as housing allowance?
The executive regulation values housing in kind as two months' basic salary, and GOSI applies how that is spread over the year in your account. Leave the field blank to see the deduction on basic salary alone, then compare it with your account.
In Masareefy you enter your take-home pay as monthly income, and the app spreads it across the days of the month after the bills and instalments you have recorded.
