Gold price today, one gram of each karat in your currency

This table gives the price of one gram of gold at each karat, worked out from the world price of an ounce of gold and converted into each currency at the same day's exchange rate. Use it to know roughly what your gold is worth, or to compare with the price a jeweller quotes you.

The price is updated every day

How the price is worked out

An ounce of pure gold is priced on the world market in US dollars, and an ounce is 31.1035 grams. Dividing the ounce price by its weight gives the price of one gram of pure gold, which is then converted into each currency at the same day's exchange rate, never a rate from another day. The other karats are priced by the share of pure gold they contain:

KaratPure gold
24 karat24 parts in 24, about 100%
22 karat22 parts in 24, about 91.7%
21 karat21 parts in 24, 87.5%
18 karat18 parts in 24, 75%

A gold pound is 8 grams of 21 karat, so it costs eight times a gram of 21 karat.

Why a jeweller's price differs

The table is the value of the gold itself. A jeweller adds workmanship, the charge for making the piece, which varies by piece and by shop, adds a margin, and the local market can move away from the world price when exchange rates swing. So what you pay when buying may be higher than the table, and what you are offered when selling lower. The table is a reference for comparison, not a price you can buy or sell at.

If you are working out zakat

To work out the zakat on your gold from its weight and karat, use the zakat on gold calculator. It fills in today's price of a gram of 24 karat in your currency, and you can type your local jeweller's price instead.

Questions people ask

How often does the price on this page change?

Once a day, with that day's ounce price and exchange rates. The date of the price is under the table, and when a currency's price comes from an older day, its date is shown beside it.

Why is there no price for my currency today?

Because its exchange rate did not reach us that day. We never estimate a price we did not receive: we show the last day one was available, or "Not available".

Is this the gold price in Egypt or Saudi Arabia specifically?

It is the world price converted at the exchange rate, the same everywhere before workmanship and the dealer's margin. The local market price is set by traders in each country and may differ.

Which karat is better for saving?

Many people prefer bars and gold pounds for saving because their workmanship is lower than jewellery's, so less is lost on selling. Choosing between karats is a matter of price and workmanship; the value of the pure gold is the same.

In Masareefy you record your gold by weight and karat, and the app shows its value every day at the world price converted into your currency, as part of everything you own. Read more on the gold tracking page.
