What is deducted from an Omani employee
- Old age, disability and death insurance: 7.5% of the wage, with a wage ceiling of OMR 3,000 a month. Anyone earning more contributes to this branch on OMR 3,000 only.
- Job security insurance: 0.5% of the whole wage, with no ceiling.
The wage, in the law, is total pay: the basic wage plus all allowances and increments. The employer pays its own share on top, and none of it comes out of your pay.
A hypothetical example: an Omani employee earning a total of OMR 1,200 pays OMR 90 for old-age insurance and OMR 6 for job security, OMR 96 in all, so OMR 1,104 reaches them.
And a non-Omani
Nothing is deducted today from a non-Omani's wage for the Social Protection Fund. The law creates a savings scheme for non-Omanis that will replace the end-of-service gratuity, but the date its contributions start has not been issued yet. Until it starts, a non-Omani is owed the gratuity by the employer; work it out with the Oman end-of-service calculator.
Questions people ask
Why does my payslip differ slightly from the calculator?
Because the law works contributions out daily, so the amount differs in a month where your service started or ended partway through. The calculator works out a full month.
Are sick leave and maternity contributions deducted from my pay?
No. The employer pays those two branches alone.
I earn over OMR 3,000. Is job security deducted on the whole wage?
Yes. The ceiling applies to old-age and work-injury insurance; job security is worked on the whole wage.
