This is an estimate, not legal advice. For your own case, ask the Ministry of Labour before you sign any final settlement.

How the calculator works

  • The gratuity is no less than one last basic wage for each year of service.
  • Part of a year earns its share in proportion to the time served, so nine months is three quarters of a wage.
  • The basic wage is the one agreed in the contract plus the periodic increment, without the housing, transport or other allowances.

Take special unpaid leave and unpaid childcare leave out of your length of service, because they do not count towards the gratuity. End-of-service gratuity in Oman, who is owed it and how it is worked out explains who is owed the gratuity and when it is lost.

The comparison with the old method

The repealed law paid fifteen days' wage for each of the first three years, a month's wage for each later year, and nothing for under a year. Article 61 counts service that began before the law as part of the service period, and sets no different rate for those years. So the calculator shows both: if your settlement applies the old method to all or part of your service, ask the Ministry of Labour before you sign.

Questions people ask

My contract gives more than one wage per year. Should I rely on the calculator?

No. Article 61 is a minimum; what your contract gives above it is yours. The calculator shows the minimum only.

I am Omani. Am I owed the gratuity?

Article 61 concerns workers who do not benefit from the Social Protection Law, which in practice mostly means non-Omanis in the private sector. Check your own position with the Ministry of Labour.

What changes when the savings scheme for non-Omanis starts?

The scheme replaces the gratuity for service after contributions begin, and the employer remains liable for the gratuity for service before. No decision on the start date has been issued yet.

In Masareefy you record the gratuity as income when it arrives, and set a savings goal with a date before you start spending it.
